What is included in a UKCA Declaration of Conformity

A UKCA Self-Declaration of Conformity or a Declaration issued after a conformity assessment of a certifying body have exactly the same format and only differ by point 4. among those listed below:

  1. name and full business address of the manufacturing company or of the Authorized Representative
  2. product serial number, model, or type identification
  3. statement indicating that the manufacturer assumes all responsibility for the compliance of the product
  4. details of the approved body that carried out the conformity assessment procedure (if applicable)
  5. the relevant legislation that the product complies with
  6. name and signature of the manufacturer or Authorized Representative
  7. issuing date

👉 Despite not being explicitly prohibited, to combine the EC Declaration and the UKCA Declaration in a single document is not recommended. We recommend keeping them separate and not mixing the different normative references.

Clarification on relevant legislation

The “relevant legislation” to be mentioned in the Declaration of Conformity consists of the UK Regulations and Designated Standards.

Regulations are the higher-rank norms and correspond to the EU Directives.

Designed Standards make it possible to demonstrate the conformity of products (but also of services and procedures) to British norms. They can be adopted by a recognized standardization body:

  • British Standards Institution (BSI),
  • European Committee for Standardisation (CEN),
  • European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation (CENELEC),
  • European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI),

or by an international standardization body, such as:

  • International Organization for Standardization (ISO),
  • International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC),
  • International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
  • …

Standards are commonly referred to as “BS EN…” where “BS” stands for British Standard and “EN” refers to a harmonized standard adopted by European states.

The possibility of making a Self-declaration is directly related to the possibility of demonstrating conformity to one or more harmonized standards. When the manufacturer has followed a non-harmonized standard, it will need the assessment of a certification body.
